The 9ft container is a specialised size, standing almost the same height as a full size shipping container, with a fraction of the footprint.
Ventilated and weather tight, they have a lockbox for added peace of mind – perfect to pair with an NZBOX shipping grade padlock for an extra layer of security!

Frequently asked questions
What are 9ft containers used for?
Our 9ft shipping containers are a great alternative to our 10ft containers and are perfect for smaller sites or when you don’t need the capacity of a larger shipping container. Whilst they are practical on worksites, they are also great in domestic environments for homeowners looking to add extra storage capacity.
Should I buy a 6ft, 7ft, 8ft, or a 9ft container?
It really depends on how much you have to store and the length of what you are storing. We would suggest measuring what your largest items are to ensure they fit inside our 9ft containers. If you still have space, you could also look at our smaller 6ft, 7ft or 8ft containers. There is quite a difference in price between the different size containers so if everything looks like it will fit into a smaller container then it’s definitely the better value-for-money choice.
Do you sell second hand 9ft containers?
At this stage, we do not sell second-hand 9ft containers. The reason is that 9ft containers are still a very new design and no second-hand market has yet developed in NZ. We envisage having some ex-hire stock to sell by mid to late 2024.
Can we arrange our own transport?
Yes, you can if you are buying your container. If you are hiring, we prefer to arrange transport so we know where the container is placed. If the transport is arranged by the customer for hire, we would usually charge a bond. Please remember we do deal with a lot of transport companies and in most cases would be able to offer the best possible transport rate. Chains are also required to transport an 9ft shipping container!
We had to move a house lot of goods from the North Island to the South Island with a 3+ months delay in knowing where to actually deliver it. NZ Box had the best service at the best price for our needs. They delivered the clean new container to our driveway. We filled it. They collected it and sent it South to a yard in the vicinity of our eventual location. The container stayed in the yard safely while we got ourselves sorted. When it came time to empty the container NZ Box organised the delivery to the new address. We emptied most of our items but had excess so NZ Box organised for us to retain the container in the local yard for another month while we sold and disposed of the excess. This worked very well for us and also saved heaps of hassle. Stuart was very easy to deal with, great communication, and generally a good bloke. I wouldn’t hesitate to use NZ Box again.
