Reefer containers
At NZBOX, we pride ourselves on being experts in the hire and sale of Reefer Containers (refrigerated shipping containers) right throughout New Zealand. Within the industry, Reefer Containers are typically used in the transport of temperature-sensitive goods. They are also great for chilled long term storage especially in the hospitality sector to store additional stock of meat, fruit and vegetables. Our refrigerated containers have excellent temperature control and range from +35°C to -40°C which makes them perfect for the transportation and storage of perishable goods.
20ft Reefer Container
The 20ft reefer container is the most popular model in our reefer container lease fleet. The container provides ca. 27 m³ temperature controlled space for storage and transport use. Temperatures can be set from -40 °C up to +35 °C, depending on the reefer’s model. Reefer containers are fully insulated. Their inner surfaces are made of stainless steel and aluminum, which makes them easy to wash clean. 20ft reefers can easily be handled with forklifts or cranes. The container operates with 32 A 3-phase 5-pin or maritime plug, based on your preference. The standard model has either a T-bar or flat floor. Containers can be equipped with various accessories. The unit is suitable for international transportation (CSC).

40ft High Cube Reefer Container
The 40ft reefer container (12m) provides ca. 76 m³ temperature controlled space for storage and transport use. Temperatures can be set from -40 °C up to +35 °C, depending on the reefer’s model. Reefer containers are fully insulated. Their inner surfaces are made of stainless steel and aluminum, which makes them easy to wash clean. All of our 40ft reefers are High Cube models with approximately 30 cm extra height compared to standard models.
The container operates with 32 A 3-phase 5-pin or maritime plug, based on your preference. The standard model has either a T-bar or flat floor. Containers can be equipped with various accessories. The unit is suitable for international transportation (CSC).

Frequently asked questions
Are there different refrigerated shipping container sizes?
Our refrigerated shipping containers are available in 20ft and 40ft sizes. Our 20ft containers are predominately 3 phase power supply, but we may from time to time be able to supply single phase, whereas our 40ft containers are only available in the 3 phase power supply.
How do refrigerated containers work?
Reefer containers essentially work like large refrigerators. They are built with a shipping container refrigeration unit that delivers chilled air through the floor which is circulated internally.
How are refrigerated containers powered?
Our reefer containers are powered single phase (20ft and 40ft) or a 3 phase power supply unit (40ft only).
The single phase power supply (3 Pin PDL plug required) has a temperature range of +10°C to -20°C and offers a 50% power saving compared to the 3 phase.
The 3 phase power supply (4 Pin PDL plug required) is more powerful than the single phase with a temperature range of +25°C to -25°C.
What are the other uses of refrigerated shipping containers?
As well as the transport and storage of perishables for supermarkets and restaurants, mobile catering teams also use them frequently for temporary storage pf food and beverages during festivals and events. Other sectors, like the pharmaceutical industry, rely on refrigerated containers in situations where controlled temperature environments are a necessity. Private homeowners have also bought Reefer containers for their own additional food/beverage storage needs.
